This is a story about my dad's journey through his brain tumor and faith. In December of 2019, he was led to quit his banking job of 30 years where he was a VP for a small bank. He had been praying for a while about what to do because he was feeling lost. He did not know what the future held for him, but he still had an overwhelming peace. During the time while praying and searching for employment, he had at random times past and current employees and bank customers text or approach him with hugs, Bible verses, prayers, and just words of encouragement. While job searching he had an uneasy feeling until he came across an entry level position for a large bank. He applied for it and got an interview the next day. While on his way to the interview he stopped at a random gas station to calm his nerves. When he went inside, he was approached by a bank customer from the bank that he had recently quit. They had a short conversation about what he was going to do, and the customer put his hand on my dad's shoulder and said, “You got this.” Just what my dad needed to calm his nerves. He did get the job but they created a senior level position with more pay, just for him. He was employed there for just over a year when he started to get sick. On his birthday in 2021, his MRI showed a brain tumor, and in July 2021 he had it removed at Ohio State. He had some complications after the surgery and is now on full disability. For the last 4 years he has had no old memories, but while praying his memories returned and recently he and my mom were able to talk about the past for hours. During this time he never went without a paycheck because his new job offered disability, and he was there just long enough to qualify. His old job did not offer disability, so if he would of stayed there he would of been without pay during his brain tumor diagnosis and surgery. His favorite Bible verse is Hebrews 12:1, “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
